The association of "Almanach de Brioude" is active in the Brioude area (called "Brivadois") which is part of the "Auvergne"province of France. It publishes a yearly bulletin for its members: the "Almanach de Brioude, bulletin de la Société d'Etudes Archéologiques, Historiques et Littéraires de la région de Brioude". If interested, an applicant can become a member on subscription.

The articles published in the "Almanach" concern local history, but also literature, archeology and the arts when they have a connection with the area. Any person with in-depth knowledge of a subject which could interest our readers can suggest an article of his or her own composition, to be published in our pages on a decision of the advisory commission. However, writers are requested to make it the first publication of their article anywhere, and to bring fresh information. Here is our postal address:

Almanach de Brioude
Rue de la Ganivelle

-our e-mail: <brivadois@libertysurf.fr>

-and our telephone: (0)4 71 50 16 23, where you may be answered in English if the right people are available at the time of your call. You can always telephone during duty hours, but it is best to write. Business hours on the premises are from 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. local time on working Fridays. Our archives are then available to researchers. 'Almanach de Brioude' has also published a few books. Those not yet out of print are listed here.
For a small fee we can provide photocopies of previously published articles by mail. This service is available to researchers on the premises during duty hours.

The archives of "Almanach de Brioude" comprise
------ all the previous issues of "Almanach". The first issue is dated 1920, the year the association was set up.
------ a library of about 300 volumes mainly connected with local history.
------ documents from different origins, either printed (such as magazines or local newspapers) or handwritten (manuscripts - some on parchment from the 13th century - studies on the local parishes, or on people or families of importance at least locally: La Fayette, Bouillé, etc...).

The April 2000 issue of "Almanach de Brioude" (with its 576 pages in the A5 format) carried an index and a table of all articles published since inception of the association. Both are reproduced here to allow preliminary research.

If interested, it is then up to the researcher to contact the association for further information.

P.S.            Numerous sites exist on the Internet, that draw up an inventory of the Brioude area with more or less success when interest or life-span are concerned.

It is worth it delving into the Centre culturel départemental de Haute-Loire's database on the site of Conseil général de Haute-Loire:             <http://www.cg43.fr>
